Hotel Alpen resort 4* - Zermatt/ Switzerland

I stayed the night in this 4* hotel in Zermatt. The hotel is situated at about 500m from the skilift and the railwaystation. The shopping street with several watch stores (even a dedicated Hublot and Tissot shop) is also at walking distance and it has to be said Zermatt is a real romantic and large mountain city. I really enjoyed staying in this car free city and would definitely chose this hotel because of a very good price/ quality.

HINT: You have to be aware you can't enter Zermatt by car. Therefor you have to park your car in the public parking space in Täsch and then take the Glacier Express to Zermatt. If you inform the hotel, they will come to pick you up with an electric bus and bring you with your luggage to the hotel. During your stay in Zermatt you can also take an electric taxi or one of the public busses (this last one is included in your skipass).

Room:
The rooms are really very spacious with 2 twin beds (200*80 cm) next to each other and where clean. I really enjoyed the beds because they where really soft due to the topper. Also the pullows (even xtra pillows provided in the closet) and the duvet where of a really good and soft quality. Really the best bed I slept in this week.
There is a big Samsung TV screen above the large desk. Also a sofa is provided and can be replaced for a 3th person if needed. The rooms have all been renovated and are very well equiped with lights (behind the bed,...) to give the room a nice look. The only thing I do not understand is the fact they worked with a carpet again even after renovating (the carpet is eventhough also new).
There is a very good Wifi signal in the whole hotel, even in the rooms there is a strong signal.
The rooms also have s balcony, which can be an advantage in summer.

HINT: There are rooms with a view on the famous Matterhorn.

View from my balcony (Matterhorn was in the clouds)

Bathroom:
The bathroom is spacious with the toilet in the bathroom, but kind of seperated behind a screen.
There is a bath with shower & sink with xtra make-up mirror, On the first hand I thought the water pressure was very weak, but apparently there is sth. you have to turn on to enjoy the full force of the water.
There are several amenities provided; soap bar, sewing kid, body lotion, tissues, shower cap & nail polisher. The liquid soap is from 'LUX' and is provided in a dispenser. There is a hairdryer in the drawer of a very good and strong quality. There are 2 small hand towels, 2 medium towels and 2 big towels (could have been softer :-)).
So when it comes to facilities in the bathroom, really everything is in place for a 4* hotel.

Breakfast:
The breakfast is served from 7 till 11 am as a buffet.
There is really a large
- 5 kinds of bread + different kinds of bread rolls,
- croissants
- 5 kinds of Marmelade
- Nutella
- honey
- eggs/ bacon/ sausages
- 3 kinds of yoghurts
- cornflakes (different kinds)
- different cheeses and meat
- orange & appel juice
- local sparkling wine
- scrambled eggs/ omelette/.. can be asked on request

Diner:
The diner is served in a typical style restaurant with live music (not my choise, but you get used to it after a while :-)).
You have the opportunity to take half board in this hotel. This exists of 4 courses (salad badr, soup, main course & dessert). They sometimes work with a themed night like they serve one night raclette.
I enjoyed the salad buffet and chose a 'trio di pasta' from the menu. This was not advisable as the pasta was really pasta without to much sauce. So Italian food may not have been the best choice :-).

Restaurant for diner

HINT: The diner menu (half board) costs 60 CHF pp if you do not take it in the room rate. So if you plan to eat every night in the hotel, I would strongly advice you to take the half board formula.

Wellness:
The wellness area is split up in different area's which make it less cosy.
There is a sauna for 6 persons and a steam bath (6 pers.) which are both new and clean.
There is also an indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi in another area. There is also a 'nebeldouche' which is a great sensation after the sauna due to the different water pressures.
The relax room has relax beds, but as you have the feeling you'r in the hallway between the sauna & the swimming pool this is not such a nice area.

Advantages:
- very spacious rooms which have been renovated
- very modern bathrooms
- very comfortable beds with soft topper and good pillows
- strong wifi signal all over the hotel
- large breakfast buffet

Disadvantages:
- The wellness area is split up in different area's which make it less cosy.

I would rate this 4* hotel 8,5/10 due to the price/ quality for a Swiss hotel. Rooms are really nice and comfortable (especially the beds, which is the most important to me). The only thing I did not really enjoy was the diner, but as I said this could have been just because I chose the wrong plate :-).
